Bernardino De Rubeis, the former mayor of Lampedusa and Linosa, has been released from prison after being sentenced to 6 years and 9 months for two cases of extortion. The deputy prosecutor general at the Court of Appeals in Palermo signed the order for his immediate release. De Rubeis, who was under house arrest due to health reasons, plans to continue serving and advocating for his people.
