Coopculture, the company in charge of additional services at the Valley of the Temples Archaeological Park, is offering various guided tours on Sundays before the month of October, when admission is free. Visitors will have the chance to explore the underground areas where water was once channeled and where the earliest Christian communities gathered. There will also be an opportunity to taste products grown within the park as part of the Diodoros project. One special visit is dedicated to the Giacatello Hypogeum, where visitors can discover the underground world created by the ancient Greeks of Akràgas to capture, transport, and preserve water. Speleologists from the “Agrigento Underground” association will provide insights into the speleological and geological aspects related to water resources and the subsoil of ancient Akràgas. Another tour is focused on the underground pathways of the Valley of the Temples, exploring structures related to the necropolis of the early Christian community of Agrigento. The itinerary includes the Tempio della Concordia, the corridor cutting through the Paleochristian necropolis, and the Grotta Fragapane catacomb. Additionally, there is the “Valle senza segreti” guided tour, which combines a visit to the main section of the Valley of the Temples with an underground itinerary. Visitors will explore the Greek city of Akràgas and the archaeological evidence from the Paleochristian period. The tour concludes inside the Paleochristian catacombs. Visitors also have the option to experience the tastes and flavors of the region through various enogastronomic experiences offered at the archaeological park, specifically at Casa Barbadoro, a restored farmhouse dedicated to showcasing local cuisine. Casa Barbadoro is connected to the Diodoros project and offers a range of products grown in areas of the Valley of the Temples that are free from monuments and artifacts. The farmhouse is open from 1 to 28 October and reservations for the tasting experience can be made through the Coopculture website.
