Multa di 400 euro e confiscation of the vehicle. The person responsible for dumping piles of waste on the streets of Marsala is facing the consequences of their actions. In addition to the penalty, Facebook users who commented on the video posted on the Municipality’s page are also being condemned. Thanks to those images, it was possible to identify the van driver who, after driving along Via Favara, entered the diversion under the Sossio bridge and, halfway through, with the help of another person, dumped a large amount of waste. The surveillance cameras captured everything, allowing the municipal police to identify the van owner and issue a report. But that’s not all: the case has been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office because, in addition to the fine and precautionary seizure of the vehicle, there may be criminal aspects, and therefore, the images will be assessed by the judicial authority. The mayor, Massimo Grillo, commented: “This incident goes beyond a simple act of waste dumping. It is an act of total disregard for our community and the environment in which we live. It is our duty to raise awareness among citizens about these illegal actions that are harmful to all of us. We ask all citizens to join us in reporting similar behavior. We cannot allow a few individuals to ruin the beauty of our city and put our health and the environment at risk.” In the territory of Marsala, there is an active environmental surveillance network that allows for the interception of those who break the rules. However, the mayor requests the collaboration of citizens: “If you notice suspicious behavior or witness instances of waste dumping, report them immediately to the competent authorities. Together, we can make a difference! The environment belongs to everyone, and by protecting it, we can ensure a better future for future generations.”
