Tifoso aggredito Mascalucia-Vittoria: «Picchiato e rapinato davanti moglie e figlio»

Violence and Robbery at the Stadium: Vittoria Club denounces the incident

The Vittoria club has reported an incident of assault and robbery at the exit of the stadium, where they had just witnessed the Mascalucia-Vittoria match. The Vittoria team secured a victory with four goals, but the celebration was marred by a disturbing event that took place after the game. In a statement released by the club, they expressed their disappointment over the incident, which tarnished the well-deserved success of the team led by Danilo Rufini. Following their 4-0 victory on Sicilian soil, the team is now at the top of the standings in Group D of the Promozione championship, having won all five matches played so far.

After celebrating the triumph with their supporters, a Vittoria fan, who had traveled to Mascalucia with his family, was ambushed by a group of about twenty hooded perpetrators armed with sticks as they were heading to their car to begin the journey back home. The attackers, in front of the terrified looks of the man’s wife and child, assaulted him with kicks, blows, and punches before robbing him of his cellphone, money, documents, and other personal belongings from his wife’s bag. They then quickly fled the scene. This act of senseless violence has nothing to do with sports and raises serious questions about the management of public order in stadiums, especially those hosting matches in so-called “minor” leagues.

“It’s sad and inconceivable that, even after numerous awareness campaigns aimed at football fans, we still witness acts of unprecedented violence like the one that occurred after the game against Mascalucia,” commented President Toti Miccoli. “As a club, we have worked hard to instill the values of sports in our city, attracting families and children to the stadium. Yet, we still have to witness and justify ourselves for episodes of violence with innocent victims. I fail to understand why our stadium, during home matches of Vittoria, is heavily guarded by dozens of law enforcement agents to ensure the safety of spectators, while there are hardly any representatives of the authorities during away matches. We, as a club, stand for legality and support the law enforcement agencies that ensure the orderly conduct of matches. We would like the same treatment during away games. This is a problem that has persisted for decades, but little or nothing has been done about it. I hope that the law enforcement in Mascalucia can swiftly identify the perpetrators of this heinous attack on the Vittoria family, who were only guilty of wanting to attend a football match in their city. As a club, in addition to expressing our solidarity, we will also voice our concerns to the competent authorities, the FIGC, and the regional football league so that such incidents are met with the appropriate consequences for the perpetrators of violent attacks.”
